First surgeries today!

Just finished a huge breakfast, and we're headed to the hospital for our first surgeries today. We spend the day yesterday seeing more patients (barefoot, of course!), cleaning our assigned O.R. at Kossamet Hospital ( incredibly bad... ugh) - I won't go into details because I just ate!! We had a lovely meeting with the head of the hospital (sixth from the right in pic above)... and we're all nervous about today. I got the anesthesia machine to work, I think - We only have one O.R. light, the power goes on and off, and the O.R. bed won't really lock in place and is, of course, all manual with rusty cranks and pumps to make it move. I should get a workout trying to get it in Trendelenburg!!
Five of us crossed the back alley last night to get a "group" massage at a bizarre little massage parlor - a whopping $6 for an hour... the boys were too chicken to accompany us ... and the whole experience was hilarious.. details to follow.

At right is part of our 'clean-up crew", Dominique, Nancy and Gabi - we were having to scrub blood and ???? off the ceilings and walls..Took us several hours, but it looks (and smells) enormously better for our patients today.

Anyway, got to go - should be an adventure!!
